About the Author

TAMRON HALL is an Emmy Award–winning television host and executive producer of the syndicated talk show Tamron Hall, a best-selling author, a self-taught cook, and a mother. Born and raised in Texas, Tamron had her culinary senses ignited at an early age by her grandfather Louis Mitchell, a BBQ pitmaster, and the bond they developed around food. She has guest judged on Food Network’s Beat Bobby Flay and Emeril Live, and she’s a longtime supporter and participant of leading culinary events such as the James Beard Awards, Food & Wine Classic, and New York City Wine & Food Festival. Off air, Tamron enjoys cooking at home, with friends and family gathered around the table.

LISH STEILING is a chef, food stylist, recipe writer, and James Beard Award– and Emmy Award–winning culinary producer. She is a co-founder of the brand The Taste Curators and is a recurring chef on Epicurious’s YouTube channel. Lish was also a champion on Food Network’s Chopped. She has worked for and contributed to the Today show, Food Network, the New York Times, the Tamron Hall show, Vanity Fair, Giadzy, and the Kitchn, among others.

Hall, former host of the Today Show and currently of her self-titled syndicated talk show, enlists her good friend Steiling (a Chopped champion) to take home cooks on a culinary journey that emerged from the authors' collaborations on morning show segments. After they first met on the set of Today, they linked up to bring more kitchen confidence to Hall's repertoire, helping to fill a void created by her father's recent passing. The book begins with a pantry-stocking primer, then a common-sense gadget guide, including recommendations for best kitchen placement. A primer on deconstructing recipe reading is a nice element, as is coverage of basic techniques to be used in the book's recipes (like boiling, searing, emulsifying, and roasting). The remainder of the book offers menus and dishes for all sizes of gatherings, including single-person meals. The recipes represent the tastes and favorites of the authors but are highly relatable when they include snippets from conversations between them While some readers may wish for more story surrounding the family-favorite dishes, cooks will have a great variety of recipes to select from, and the inclusion of specialty mocktails is a treat. VERDICT Fans of the authors, along with novice cooks, will embrace this solid book.—Ron Block
