About the Author

Dhirendra Verma is a gold medallist from Agra University, from where received his Master's degree in Science in 1961. He had been a Rockefeler Foundation Research Fellow at the National Institute of Virology in Pune before leaving for Canada in 1963 on a student scholarship to pursue studies at the doctoral level. Subsequently, he was the Head of the Department of Physiology (Faculty of Health Sciences) at the Nova Scotia Institute of Technology in Halifax, Canada. In 1980, he was invited to Kuwait by its Ministry of Health as a Senior Consultant at the Department of Medical Records and Health Statistics, a position that he held for 22 years, before retiring in 2002. Also, he served the WHO as an individual Consultant contributing extensively to the development, implementation and training of the ICD (International Classification of Diseases), in the Arabian Gulf Region. For some time, he was the Administrative Director of the Al Rashid Hospital, a large private hospital in Kuwait. Dr. Verma has authored numerous research reports, monographs and journal articles on relevant contemporary issues in public health.
