Alexandra Georgas is an artist. Her creativity flows whether she’s writing poetry, song lyrics, books or computer code. As a woman recently retired from a 35+ year career in IT, I found this book to be a loving, painfully honest, and amazingly hysterical tribute to computer geeks everywhere. This is the heartfelt journey of a young woman’s self-development in a largely male dominated industry. It’s chock full of experience, good advice, and life lessons provided in a humorous, storied format. It’s even got a lesson in fashion therapy, with hauntingly beautiful song lyrics and an Ode to the Computer Chip. I really enjoyed coming along on the ride as a naïve young woman grows into the creative, strong leader she is today. I strongly recommend “A Computer Geek Speaks” as it’s full of stories that resonate, entertain, and most importantly enlighten.

Alexandra is a natural entertainer and storyteller. In her book, A Computer Geek Speaks, she has hit on one of the keys to making IT more accessible to everyone - stories! Most do not care about the technical details of databases but once you read the lyrics to her “No Null Rap”, you will understand the power of these stories. This book should be handed to all high schoolers aspiring to enter the technology field, first because it contains valuable wisdom in a very fun package and second because all of us in IT should learn more about storytelling to help non-IT folks engage in the process more meaningfully.

Very entertaining book. I would recommend A Computer Geek Speaks to both “techies” who have faced many of the same situations, and to non-techies who wonder what we do all day and think we don’t have a sense of humor! I enjoyed reading it and certainly could relate to many of the author’s experiences from “floppy disc” days to the fast-paced “agile” world of today. It also served as a reminder of how far we have come now that we have the ability to be connected to our phones, cars, home appliances, personal security systems, and a host of other things—all through technology.

"Computer Geek Speaks is a refreshing collection of vignettes about a career in computer science, and all its idiosyncrasies- including MEN! A fun read for young women entering this field."
