Overview

Buck Fisher, tenor saxophonist and band leader, was one of the superstars of the Big Band era. His rise to fame was chronicled in The Sideman: A Novel of the Big Band Era. Now, having returned from World War II after a lifethreatening injury, his future as a musician is in doubt. The Buck Fisher Orchestra earned millions
of dollars for the RCA Bluebird label before the beginning of the war. But since his injury may prevent him from ever playing again, his old boss at Bluebird, friend and mentor, Jack Merrill, has offered him a position as Vicepresident of New Artist Development at RCA Victor records.
Thus begins a new chapter in the life of Buck Fisher. As an executive, he is responsible for signing some of the biggest names in the music world to contracts for the RCA label. But life is fraught with both triumphs
and tragedies and they too are a part of Buck Fisher's story.
A Change of Key is again set against historical events following World War II including the McCarthy Era, the Korean War, and the new world of Cool Jazz and Rock n Roll.
A Change of Key: Book II of the Sideman, follows Buck's career as he reunites with old friends who
he hires as his assistants. His former sidemen and vocalists are also brought on board to be superstars in their own right.
