This second Alex Carter mystery from Henderson (after A Solitude of Wolverines) brings back intrepid wildlife biologist, Dr. Alex Carter. This time Alex is studying polar bears in the Canadian Artic, but she is the one being hunted. Someone is trying to sabotage Alex's study that could prove crucial to legislation protecting the polar bears and reverse the impacts of climate change. Is it simply the poachers after the quick money brought in by the pelts and narwhal tusks, or is there a deeper more sinister villain at work? With a trusty intern, protective pilot, and a new researcher friend, Alex thinks she has things handled, but soon she is questioning even those closest to her. VERDICT A slow start and a plot that frequently requires suspension of disbelief may not make this a choice for your most discerning mystery fans.
