Lamar Wilson has just attended the funeral of his father, Jack Wilson. A few family members gather at his parent's home afterwards. While sitting in his dad's favorite chair, he thinks back to his years as a boy spent with his dad...his hero. He remembers that as he got older, how his dad really changed: changes that he couldn't understand...changes that frustrated him... changes that created distance between them. In time, his mother, Mary, shared stories about Jack's past that filled in the gaps and finally allowed the pieces to fit together. Lamar had made assumptions that led to conclusions that were not correct. With a better understanding of his dad, Lamar's heart began to change, and he drew closer to his dad over the last 27 years that they had together. As Lamar honors the memory of his dad on this day, he remembers one of the greatest lessons that he learned: Sometimes a son can help his father to be a better father by being a better son.
