About the Author

Batouly Camara, a native New Yorker with family roots in Guinea, WestAfrica, can often be described as an enthusiastic, focused, and passionate scholar.As a first-generation scholar- athlete pursuing a master’s degree in Sport for Development and three Final Four appearances at the illustrious University of Connecticut, one Sweet Sixteen appearance at the University of Kentucky, two-year U18 USABasketball invitee, and Guinean National Team player, she continues to experience firsthand how access to education and sports enrich her life in a positive calibration.

Compelled to create these same opportunities for young girls and women around the world, Batouly founded Women and Kids Empowerment (W.A.K.E), to address and support her mission globally. Batouly is also working to create access, opportunities, and resources for young girls by creating the first girls’basketball academy in Guinea, Conakry.

In addition to consulting with professional sports teams and appearing on over 90 panels and podcasts across the world, she has also appeared on platforms including TEDx UConn, Forbes, AJ Contrast, and Jumpball to deliver her expertise on topics related to race, gender, education, religion, and sports access.

Batouly's devotion reiterates her desire to manifest a world that acknowledges, serves, and empowers all youth.
