Number one high school football prospect, senior quarterback Deonte Rodriguez is poised to lead The Longwood Roughriders to a third consecutive Florida state title. Having overcome an absentee father, poverty, and insurmountable odds stacked against him, he prepares to live up to the lofty expectations.
Despite the fact that his head coach, Buck Carson's legacy at the school is greatly owed to Deonte, he despises him along with every player of color on the football team. A born and bred Mississippi rebel, he can't stand depending on the "inferior" race to lead him to football glory. He will tolerate Deonte and others like him for the sake of a state championship, but after that, he'll make it his mission to see their futures completely destroyed. Nothing could complicate his plans more than his respectful, but neglected and curious daughter, Rainey, from exploring her longtime crush on the school's star quarterback.
Against her father's previous warnings, she aggressively pursues a love affair with this "colored boy" as Buck often refers to him. While the two manage to keep the affair a secret, that doesn't stop the rivalry between Buck and Deonte from reaching its boiling point several times, a few times publicly. Within one hell of a roller coaster season, Deonte, his family, the team, Rainey, and Buck will learn the true meaning of "4th and Long" in the game of life.
