As a freelance writer, I have published articles in magazines such as Mature Living, Writers’ Journal, Woman’s World, and Chicken Soup for the Soul. I belong to the Inland Empire Branch of the California Writers Club and facilitate a writers’ critique group. I have conducted workshops and made presentations in regard to writing and publishing. I'm Brenda Hill, a California-based author, editor, and writing coach. I love things that go bump in the night whether they're serial killers or other strange creatures. I've written about those pesky people who intrude on our lives with deadly force - Ten Times Guilty, With Full Malice, Beyond the Quiet. I'm still writing about those pesky people/creatures, and with my first paranormal - The House on Serpent Lake - they're in a slightly different form. My latest, From the Painted Tomb, is due to be published in Oct 2019, about an embittered newspaper reporter, an immortal Egyptian prince from the 18th Dynasty, and the mythical beast that stalks them both. I live in Southern California where I support my writing habit by teaching third grade. When I’m not grading writing, you can find me camping at the beach or riding behind my husband on our Harley-Davidson Ultra Limited. I love the inspiration I gain by hanging out with other writers so I belong to the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and the California Writers Club. My favorite writing genres are Young Adult Fantasy and Creative Nonfiction. My Harley adventures have been published in Coldnoon Diaries, Courtship of Winds, Blacktop Passages, and The Handlebar Star. My magical realism short story, "Angry Man," was featured in Altered Reality Magazine.
Vicki Peyton is a retired educator. While working in the public schools from 1985 to 1999, she earned two education master’s degrees. Wanting to further her career and her education, she transitioned from the public schools to the California State University system where she became a regional director for an elementary teacher preparation program. She completed her education doctorate in 2003. Up until 2013, all of Vicki’s writing have been academic, however, once she retired, she realized that she had a desire to begin writing short fiction stories. She has been learning as much as she can by participating in a weekly writers’ workshop and taking writing courses. She hopes to publish a collection of short stories in the near future.
Ben retired in 2018 after 30+ years with the City of Los Angeles. In 2004, he co-authored a young adult paperback with Paul Langan entitled Brothers in Arms, as part of the Bluford Series being offered through Townsend Press. He is currently working on a two-part El Gato Series about a promising sixteen-year-old inner city boxer struggling with tragedy and vengeance in his life. Now that he is able to fully dedicate himself to the craft of writing, he plans on exploring his passion for it to the fullest. Ben is happily married to his beautiful wife Carolina and has two grown sons.
Assunta has been honored, in addition to nursing trade journal writing and editing, by publication twice in the California Writers Club Annual Literary Review: 2016 Early Indoctrination into Science (Silence), and 2017 A Labor Day In 1992. A retired Public Health Nurse, a mom, a grandmother, and a survivor of life on many levels, Assunta uses writing as a way to process her journey. Her adult life has been greatly enriched by hosting visitors from all over the world in her own home ever since 1984. A world traveler as well, deploying in disaster response by the Red Cross, and experiencing the joy of seeing the USA from her sleeper-car train window, among many other unique adventures. Assunta hosts A Writers Circle, in recent years in her own home in Riverside, CA. She gives the credit for all of her triumphs, talents and accomplishments to her Lord and savior, Jesus Christ. Constance can relate to being a female Huckelberry Finn on a raft down the river of life in search of adventure. Wonderful tributaries have provided the thrill of writing discoveries as well as challenges. To navigate back upstream against current has provided the greatest reward as it has been a real test of determination and resourcefulness. Some of the writing adventures she has explored are a historical novel beginning the year of European revolutions in 1848 Liguria, a humorous novella-cookbook set in England, the flash non-fiction escapades involving eccentric family members, and the numerous comedy of errors experienced by her poet friend, Jeannie Weenie.
J.K. Conibear is from neither here, nor there, but those places in between. Raised in Iran, France and Canada, she is a cross-cultural writer whose works are unified by themes of identity, loss and belonging. She escapes her suburban life by typing up stories, much to the dismay of her starving family. On occasion, she’ll take a break to haunt her cemetery of unfinished manuscripts and poems, located in Claremont, California, under her bed.

BIOGRAPHY Born in Maywood, California, I attended Bell, Huntington Park, California, and Ismay, Montana high schools; served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, attended Los Angeles State University; earned Master's Degrees in English and education; careered as a Montebello High School English teacher for thirty-two years; and retired in Redlands, California with my wife, Sharon. For over 15 years, I wrote a humor column, titled "Life and Times" relating to topical subjects from adolescence to Viagra; published in three different California newspapers, the Norwalk Southeast Cities Tribune; the Cerritos Los Cerritos Community News, and the Redlands Daily Facts. I also published in national magazines: Trailer Life, Motorhome, and Trailblazer. Many of the articles were memoirs of forty years of on-the-road experience, including travels throughout all of the United States and Canada, several excursions into Mexico and Europe, and extensive tours of China, the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Four of my books have been published. Three travel memoirs, Where the Crown, Kilt & Shamrock Take You, a humorous romp through England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales; North to Alaska with a No-Account Cat; a 90 day, 5,000 mile motorhome adventure in Alaska, Canada and the Yukon; Echoes from Down Under, an amusing consideration of life in Australia and New Zealand, plus Only the Faces Change (A High School Odyssey),a satirical memoir of thirty-two years teaching: and Easy Writing Across the Curriculum or Anywhere Else, a how-to booklet. Laura L. Mays Hoopes is Halstead-Bent Professor Emerita of Biology at Pomona College. She’s married with two grown children. She completed a creative writing certificate at UCLA in 2009 and an MFA at San Diego State University in 2013. Laura Hoopes published her memoir on becoming a woman scientist, Breaking through the Spiral Ceiling, in 2011 and the second edition of it in 2013. A dual biography called Opening Doors: Joan Steitz and Jennifer Doudna of the RNA World was published in 2019. She has over 20 published stories and articles in magazines and newspapers. Hoopes won the California Writers’ Club Jack London Award in 2013. She joined the Inlandia Writing Workshop group at Ovitt Library in Ontario in 2018.
