2014 Career Goals Survey
TaxTalent's annual Career Goals Survey provides employers of corporate in-house tax departments with insight as to how well they understand the career goals of their manager and below-level employees. The survey group was asked three key questions in reference to their career goals and the level of departmental and leadership support they felt they receive to meet their career goals. For the first time, respondents were also allowed to state in their own words what action steps their employers could take to help them feel more supported.
Major Findings From This Year's 2014 Career Goals Survey:
Unhappy campers - There is a huge increase in the dissatisfaction of respondents when it comes to their tax department leadership understanding their career goals and ambitions. The dissatisfaction among survey participants in 2013 was 46% vs. 68% in 2014 (48% relative increase).
Major Risk Factor: Mass Turnover - Since our 2014 Tax Hiring Outlook found that 92% of new hires will be in our respondent pool (Manager and below) and we have a 48% relative increase in dissatisfaction, the risk of turnover is imminent if correct action steps are not taken.
Solution: Understand, Educate and Motivate - Weve all heard the Millennial stereotypestheyre unmotivated, money hungry and have a false sense of entitlement. It turns out, the need for improved management, leadership, career development and training opportunities accounted for 65% of their needs, while compensation and work/life balance gripes were limited to less than 15%.
