Overview

Medication therapy management (MTM) services have become an integral part of pharmacy practice. In all types of settings, pharmacists are exploring the many ways MTM services can enhance their practice. 100 MTM Tips for the Pharmacist, a collection of practical advice about professional and patient care skills related to MTM, is a timely resource for pharmacists and pharmacy technicians who want to develop or expand their MTM services.

The author has gathered tried and true tips from a wide range of contributors, including practicing and retired pharmacists, educators, and consumers. The 100 concise recommendations are organized by subject category such as physician–pharmacist collaborative relationships; payment, billing, and reconciliation; and identifying, monitoring, and educating patients. Among the wide-ranging tips are these: start small and build, develop a physician newsletter, use CPT codes.

MTM services are required by the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) for Medicare Part D plans. Many other commercial and government health care programs have MTM services as part of quality improvement programs. MTM services are in demand because they improve health care quality and patient care. Comprehensive Medication Reviews (CMRs) are a core component of MTM services. CMS rates plan sponsors on many criteria, including CMR completion rates. MTM services are expanding. Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians can build their practice and increase reimbursement and revenue by providing clinical services, including MTM services.

This book has practice tips to motivate, inspire and help pharmacists and pharmacy technicians build an MTM practice helping patients, payers and the pharmacy.
