Curt Schilling
Early in his career, Curt Schilling bounced around from team to team, seemingly with little motivation. A dressing-down from his Houston Astros teammate, star pitcher Roger Clemens, led to a turnaround in Schilling's attitude. He helped his next team, the Philadelphia Phillies, get to the World Series; and in 2001, he propelled the Arizona Diamondbacks to a world championship. Three years later, Schilling joined the Boston Red Sox and promised their fans that he would bring the team a long-awaited title. To do this, he had to fight through pain: He pitched on a mangled and bloody ankle in the 2004 postseason. Over the years, Schilling has become a wonderful father and husband, an outspoken political voice, a dynamic business owner, a generous volunteer of his time and money, and a source of pride for his community.
