Gr 9 Up
Written by a black minister with a divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, this text covers a wide range of issues that today's students face. There are chapters addressing each year of college life, from freshman to senior year and into the world of work. Jones tackles such traditional issues as time management, study techniques, health care, and picking a major, but he goes far beyond these topics and explores just how Christians should behave in a college setting. He admonishes students not to lie, have sex, do drugs, or plagiarize. He directs students to hold on to their faith in the face of "colliding cultures" and "colliding beliefs," but to be open also to the exploration of new ideas, tempering everything with prayer. The advice can certainly be used by anyone thinking about college, but its potential readership is clearly limited.
