Overview

A second generation immigrant from Mexico, Cesar Chavez was born in Arizona. At age 10, Cesar's family lost their 160 acre homestead, when a long drought forced a public sale of their farm. The Chavez family moved to California to join the many migrant workers who roamed from farm to farm. At 15, Cesar quit school and took on the "pachuco" (showy) life. Then World War II broke out, and Cesar joined the Navy. After the Navy he began organizing the migrant workers into a farm workers union. Cesar became a labor leader for the National Farm Workers Association, helping to improve wages and condition for America's migrant workers.

Written for students and young adult readers, this biography also includes an extensive vocabulary builder and ten thought-provoking review questions. Great for book reports and homeschoolers.
