About the Author

My name is Becky Robbins. I have lived in Virginia all of my life. My passion has always been to work with animals or children some point in my life. At the age of forty, I started working at a veterinary office, and I have been working with animals for thirteen years. One morning, I decided that I wanted to write a children's book, and I did. Three weeks later, I had written six. My inspiration for writing these books came from the love that I feel in my heart for animals, children, and best friends.

CHAPTER 1

Hello! My name is Manny. I have four legs and a furry coat. My best friend is Matt, and he has two legs and only wears his coat when it's cold. Matt takes off his coat when he goes inside, but I get to leave mine on.

My best friend Matt loves me, and we have so much fun together. Matt and I play lots of fun games, but my favorite is fetch. My best friend Matt throws the ball; I get the ball and bring it back to Matt so he can throw it again. It's a fun game, but I do all of the work. Matt and I are tired and hungry after playing all of the fun games. We go inside, and Matt takes off his coat, but I leave mine on. Matt makes himself a sandwich, but all I get is a can of dog food. Dog food is better for me because I am a dog. I might be a dog, but my best friend Matt has made me a part of his family. Illustrated By Lowell Hildebrandt

My best friend Matt is driving now. He takes me with him to a lot of fun places. I love going for a run in the park with my best friend Matt. Exercise is good for dogs; it keeps us healthy. Matt also takes me to the beach; I love to swim in the waves. Both of us are tired and hungry. Matt gets a cheeseburger and again, I get a can of dog food. Matt has a girlfriend. Her name is Mandy. Mandy loves me, and I am so lucky I now have two best friends. My best friends Matt and Mandy take me everywhere with them. They even took me to a drive-in movie, and guess what? Matt gave me a taste of his cheeseburger. Cheeseburgers are not good for dogs, but it sure was yummy!

My best friends Matt and Mandy get married. They have a baby boy whose name is Matthew. I am really lucky, because now I have three best friends. I love Matthew, but now I am getting too old to play all of those fun games like fetch and swimming in the waves. It sure is tough getting old, but Matt makes sure that I still get plenty of exercise and good food to keep me healthy. No more cheeseburgers for me.

Little Matthew is five years old, and he sure has a lot of energy. Matt feels like it's time to let Matthew have a best friend. Matt, Mandy, Matthew, and I get into the car and begin our search for a best friend for Matthew. What a fun day this will be! Matt and Mandy take Matthew to a pet store in search of a best friend for him. There are many cute puppies and kittens to choose from. The pet store is crowded with kids, and they all want to take home a puppy or a kitten. Something doesn't feel right, so we leave and go to the local animal shelter.
