About the Author

Jillian Metchooyeah is a member of the Dene Tha’ first nation from Alberta, Canada. She is an author, illustrator, and librarian. In 2021, she was a Kweli Sing the Truth Mentee and, in 2022/23 chosen as a participant in “We Need Diverse Books” (WNDB) Native Children's and YA Writing Intensive. She is a SCBWI member, and works in a public library selecting diverse children’s books.

Dr. Naomi Caldwell (consultant) is a member of the Ramapough Lenape Nation and Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Library Education Media Program at Alabama State University. She is an expert evaluator of the portrayal of indigenous peoples in media for youth and is a founding member of the Youth Literature Award Committee of the American Indian Library Association. Dr. Caldwell’s AILA profile states that, “She is dedicated to the notion that indigenous people are well able to tell their own stories and their world view is valid.”
