The Ennead: Proverbs of Mysticism
There is no conflict between knowledge and belief. The latter must be built upon the former, that is, what we believe should have its basis in what we observe and experience. But as mortals, there is always a limit to this knowledge, both individually and generationally, and yet we are required to act within these limits. For this reason, faith will always be a fundamental element of human life. The duty of each of us in every generation, then, is to determine what we believe, and then to act upon it. 'Religion' comes from the Latin, 'religare,' where 're' refers to 'repetition; to repeat,' and 'ligare' refers to 'connection (e.g., ligament, ligand).' In essence, whether it is the sense of awe one feels when looking up at the vastness of the evening stars, or when realizing that we share half of our DNA with the blades of grass we walk upon - whatever inspires you to have a deeper connection with all that is around you - that is your religion. This book is a composition of aphorisms that aligns with this principle, and serves as a guiding Light for the actions of humankind, combining the wisdom of the past with that of the present to paint a way toward the future.
