Overview

"La Economía Social, un Nuevo Camino para Chile".
This book proposes a fundamental change in the socio, political and economic landscape in Chile. This country has been, for more than 100 years, under the control of the private corporation model. Consequently, Chile shows a profound social, political and economic inequality. The Chilean people, that is the labor and lower middle class, have tried, unsuccessfully, to produce changes. In 1970 a socialist president was elected president of Chile, but three years later he was defeated via a bloody coup. The country lived 17 years under the regime of a dictator.
The author criticizes both the right and the left sides in Chile. The right because the book accuses them as the social sector that controls the economy of the country and therefore they are to blame for the problems that most of the people suffers. The left because they have been protesting and manifesting their discontent for many years without any result. Moreover, according to the author, the left has not been able to offer a clear and solid alternative to the Chilean people. The left has been coopted into the game of the right wing. Both sides, now, present a sad picture since they have fallen in corrupted practices.
The author proposes the implementation of the social economy model as an alternative to the private corporation system. The main pillar of the social economy is that the private property of the means of production become the collective property of the workers in each industry where this model is accepted. Thus, the financial benefits belong to all and each worker. These economic profits will allow better salaries and many benefits for the society.
There are several thesis presented in this book. The author analyses the institutional history of Chile and arrives to the conclusion that all the institutions that have controlled the government of this country, for more than 200 years, have been on the hands of the plutocracy. Never had the people of Chile an opportunity to take decisions in the interest of the country. As of now, the plutocracy controls a high percentage of the natural resources of Chile.
