Overview

The nonprofit leadership book that will help you become a more effective catalyst for change.

What's preventing YOU from changing the world for the better?

Two aims common to all nonprofits are advancing the organization's mission and advancing its financial health. In for-profit organizations, financial health is always the ultimate goal. But in nonprofit organizations, nearly every decision comes with the same underlying question—which aim to prioritize?

The Nonprofit Dilemma explores why nonprofit management is so challenging and will help you gain the clarity and strategic intent you need to become an exceptional leader. You can achieve your mission aspirations while also being a great organizational steward! Whether you are an executive, board member, or future nonprofit leader, use this book to become the leader you want to be.

Inside you'll discover:
  • Insights to help you develop and implement a better strategy
  • How to embrace values that differentiate your nonprofit
  • Ways to build, empower, and motivate purpose-driven teams
  • Proven business development tactics to grow your nonprofit
  • Ideas to improve how you measure and communicate impact
  • Strategies to develop more effective partnerships
  • And much more!

Whether you need help with grant-writing, promoting organizational focus, or handling a governance issue with tact, this book has all the advice you need to become a more effective leader and catalyst for change.
★★Each year, a portion of the sales proceeds from this book are donated to notable nonprofits per the program described on the author's blog.★★

About the Author

DC Armijo is an accomplished executive and award-winning author with over 25 years of nonprofit leadership experience. His dedication to purpose-driven work is founded in a childhood marked by poverty and a father’s illness. Those early challenges gave him the lifelong gifts of resilience, empathy, and purpose. He believes the nonprofit sector has grown increasingly important in the U.S. because of declines in governmental effectiveness and floundering public policy. As a result, we need more nonprofit leaders who are driven and equipped to make a difference.

After beginning his career in hospital administration, DC transitioned to working for nonprofits focused on environmental and public health concerns. He has led initiatives in substance abuse, veteran’s health, maternal health, nutrition, children’s health, and public health technology. He has served in a variety of nonprofit leadership roles including: senior policy analyst, director, SVP, COO, CEO, fellow, and board member. He has mentored executives, led expert panels, chaired board committees, shaped state and federal policies, and written well over $100M in successful grant proposals.

DC has also designed and launched a free clinic, led the strategy and operations of a large nonprofit government contractor, created a leadership development program, divested a for-profit subsidiary, and directed several multi-state federal health programs over his career.

DC has a bachelor’s degree in anthropology and health behavior from Oakland University and a master’s degree in health services administration from the University of Michigan. He is married and has a college-aged daughter. He spends his time between Michigan and Naples, FL. His blog can be found at nonprofitdilemma.com.
