About the Author

Sir Sidney Colvin (1845–1927) was an English writer, professor of fine arts, and keeper of prints at the British Museum. He was a friend of Robert Louis Stevenson, whose works and letters he edited. Colvin wrote several studies on literature and art, and two biographies for the English Men of Letters series.
