Big Love
The events of this novel are told in the folds of Santo Domingo, the jewel of West India, second in size only to the island of Cuba, now known as the island of Haiti. At the time when Christopher Columbus made the discovery, the island bore the name Hispaniola. In those times that weave the threads of our narrative, most of the island, especially its west, was under the control of the French, while its east was subject to the control of the Spanish. During that period, while the French Revolution was spreading the banners of freedom and equality, whites agreed to those noble principles, but they refused to give their reins to blacks. In light of this stubborn debate, an immortal love story emerges, the love of a black slave in which chivalry, tenderness, and nobility of morals are embodied. Its features are told through a bitter bloody conflict and a fierce war that broke out between the races, giving the novel a character of elegance and depth.

About the Author

About The Author

"If a writer wrote merely for his time, I would have to break my pen and throw it away," the larger-than-life Victor Hugo once confessed. Indeed, this 19th-century French author's books — from the epic drama Les Misérables to the classic unrequited love story The Hunchback of Notre Dame — have spanned the ages, their themes of morality and redemption as applicable to our times as to his.
