About the Author

Antony Makrinos is Associate Professor in Classics at UCL. His interests include Greek epic, especially Homer, Greek education, scholarship in Byzantium, and reception studies on film and popular culture. He is currently working on an edition of Eustathius' Commentary on Homer's Odyssey (Book 1).

The epic poet Homer (9th or 8th century BCE) is assumed to be author of The Iliad and The Odyssey. It is not clear whether they were written by one person or a more than one storyteller but their influence on Western culture is unprecedented and probably drawn from older oral traditions.

Created and developed at Flame Tree Publishing, independent publisher and creator of fine books, journals, notebooks and art calendars, with a focus on myths, gothic fantasy and great works.
