Overview

An Anthology of Classic Vampire Stories is a collection of short stories about vampires and one full length novel. Even though these authors have all died 100 or more years ago, these are must read vampire stories for every vampire lover!

An Authenticated Vampire Story by Franz Hartman (1909) is about an occulist who sees a picture with moving eyes and has a table move toward him. He also has a strange woman come to his room and try to seduce him. Were these products of an overactive imagination or a very real peril to his life?

Carmilla - Laura and her father live a quiet life in their remote castle in the dense forests Styria. Into this lonely life comes the mysterious house guest, Carmilla. Written in 1872, this is one of the classics of the Vampire genre. (wiki)

Clara Militch A Tale (1882) In the spring of 1878 there lived in Moscow, in a small wooden house on Shabólovka Street, a young man five-and-twenty years of age, Yákoff Arátoff by name.

"Dracula's Guest" (1909) follows an Englishman (whose name is never mentioned but is presumed to be Jonathan Harker) on a visit to Munich before leaving for Transylvania. It is Walpurgis Night and in spite of the hotelier's warning to not be late back, the young man later leaves his carriage and wanders toward the direction of an abandoned "unholy" village. As the carriage departs with the frightened and superstitious driver, a tall and thin stranger scares the horses at the crest of a hill. (wiki)

(1894)For the Blood is the Life – A classic horror story. He had dined at sunset on the broad roof of the old tower, because it was cooler there during the great heat of summer....The tower was one of those built all down the west coast of Calabria by the Emperor Charles V early in the sixteenth century, to keep off the Barbary pirates, when the unbelievers were allied with Francis I against the Emperor and the Church. They have gone to ruin, a few still stand intact, and mine is one of the largest. How it came into my possession ten years ago, and why I spend a part of each year in it, are matters which do not concern this tale. The tower stands in one of the loneliest spots in Southern Italy, at the extremity of a curving rocky promontory, which forms a small but safe natural harbor at the southern extremity of the Gulf of Policastro, and just north of Cape Scales, the birthplace of Judas Iscariot, according to the old local legend.

Ombra by Mrs. Richard S. Greenough (1872) is a story about a man who finds a lovely young woman who leads him to a terrible sorcerer who....(vampire and horror stories blog)

The Corpse the Blood-Drinker –(died 1715) By P’ou Song-lin - An unwelcome visitor comes in the night………..

The Dead Smile" (1899) – F. Marion Crawford - The story is all about lies, secret, forbidden love and, of course, a little of the supernatural.

“True Story of a Vampire” is actually a short story written by Count Eric Stanislaus Stenbock. The story was published in London in 1894 in “Studies of Death,” a collection of stories which received favorable comment by H. P. Lovecraft himself. Count Vardalek, is one of the earliest examples of a literary vampire choosing as its prey a member of its own sex, an idea which was previously imagined in the 1872 masterpiece “Carmilla” (interestingly, Stenbock's story is told by a Carmella). The Vampire by Jan Naruda (1920) is a full blooded vampire story.

The Vampire of Croglin Grange – 1900 - This legend, perhaps, could be considered one of the most famous and sought after accounts of a real vampire.

Varney the Vampire -
1847 - The story begins with Varney’s attack of Flora Bannerworth, a formerly wealthy woman who had become nearly destitute with the death of her father. In true gothic fashion, Varney enters the room on a dark and stormy night..(this is a vampire novel of over 600 pgs
