Bernard Cornwell is an English author of historical fiction and a history of the Waterloo Campaign. Among his many books are the New York Times bestsellers 1356 and Agincourt; the bestselling Saxon Tales, which include The Last Kingdom; and the Richard Sharpe novels. He currently lives in the U.S. with his wife. Cornwell is alleged to have begun writing novels because he couldn't get a Green Card when he arrived in the U.S., and writing didn't require a work permit.
