He is the author of Conan Doyle: Writing, Profession, and Practice (Oxford UP, 2013), Eastern Figures: Orient and Empire in British Writing (Hong Kong UP, 2008), George Orwell (Writers and their Work series, 2003), and Wilfred Owen’s Voices: Language and Community (Oxford UP, 1993).
