The third youngest son of London schoolteachers, as a boy he wrote poetry and short funny pieces for his school's paper. He studied at Cambridge but in 1903 left school to write, and before long, he became an editor at Punch Magazine. Milne served as a lieutenant in WWI and as captain in WWII. Before gaining fame as a children's book author, he had a thriving career as a playwright. A. A. Milne also wrote poetry, novels, his autobiography as well as political nonfiction.
