Overview

Is there a single correct answer to life?

The aftermath of the 2020 pandemic is poised to reshape life for the foreseeable future. Since 2021, Cheryl Liu has visited dozens of cities across Europe, Asia, the Middle East, North America, and South America, meeting 59 friends from different countries, ages, professions, beliefs, and cultural backgrounds. She talked with them about the changes in life since the pandemic, discussing their views on marriage, dreams, and the meaning of life. Then, she recorded the conversations and compiled them into this amazing book.

When you feel anxious, depressed, or find life puzzling, you can read Travel, Talk, Dream to discover different ways of life from the other side of the world. You will see the many possibilities that life holds and might even use this book as a GPS to find the people you want to learn about.

Life doesn't have a single correct answer. After watching the stories of 59 people, who do you want to become? Or perhaps, who do you least want to become? It seems like everyone's life is good in its own way, with its own wonderful parts. At many crossroads in life, you feel conflicted and in pain, but in reality, choosing any path might lead to something beautiful.

About the Author

Cheryl Liu is a faculty member at Columbia University, a machine learning scientist who has been creating Big Data models for multiple years and a mathematician who has served as an organizer and reviewer for the American Mathematical Society sectional meeting. In the first thirty years of her life, she continuously pursued excellent academics, a successful career, and a perfect marriage. However, the further she went down this path, the more she felt lost. "Who am I?" a voice inside her asked. This wise book is about how she found her true self and explored the meaning of life by traveling to dozens of cities around the world and talking with new and old friends from different backgrounds.
