Understanding Donald Trump: and other essays about God, our lives and the times
"Understanding Donald Trump" is a collection of 50 short essays that candidly re-examines biblical spiritual practice in the unsettling context of new constricting forces and a fragmenting society. Along the way, this book analyzes Donald Trump, the pandemic and other events that will forever ear tag this current generation, asking readers to revisit things they thought they understood from new angles.

"Understanding Donald Trump" posits that we can know truth and find our way in these confusing times, by carefully choosing which authority we ascribe to, and finding the stories from antiquity that best equate to our modern conundrums. Hildebrand surgically explores one biblical account after another to piece together ancient versions of modern headlines. He finds commonalities of sociological practice across time, uncovering new applications for old lessons and some elusive answers to the most pressing modern questions.

The result is a rich and original stream of thought that peeks into the hidden machinations of the zeitgeist, draws deeply from forgotten wells of hope, and coalesces lost wisdom into modern prescriptions for meaning and action that refresh even as they challenge.

About the Author

Tim Hildebrand is a Canadian actor and writer who spent 8 years in LA before settling into his current home base just outside of Nashville. He's a provincial Arts Board literary grant recipient with script and screenplay production credits in Canada, the US and Europe. In 2020 he was nominated for the Los Angeles "Best Featured Actor" Ovation Award.

Quietly in his downtime, Tim is a closet historian, political junkie and student of divinity. His 50-year spiritual voyage led him through high and low tides of idealism and agnosticism, and numerous denominational ports of call, eventually depositing him on the beach of simple truthfulness grounded in love. Tim keenly dissects his subjects with an openness and firm graciousness that relates oddly well to Agnostics and Christians alike.

When he’s not reading or writing, Tim loves bouncing between projects with his small production company, road tripping, puttering around on his John Deere mini-tractor, and feeding the myriad critters that wander out of the woods to eat snacks and chase each other on his rural Tennessee lawn.

This is his first book.
