Buying and Selling Horses for Sport: Buyer/Seller Beware
Despite the amazingly swift reporting that occurs on the internet through social media, blogs and forums, as well as buyer/seller specific sites, disputes concerning horse sales continue to be on the rise and the same old sins are being committed - often by the same sinners. Even in light of the readily available buying and selling tips information on-line, the same mistakes are repeated. Our sport and performance horses are expensive to acquire and maintain making stakes high when something goes wrong shortly after a sale. Those states with an active equine industry, particularly a racing industry, have been aggressive in enacting laws to regulate sales, commissions and to control deceptive practices. Yet again, the same buying and selling mistakes and misconduct continue despite equine sale and general sales of goods laws, and with or without the assistance of professionals, including lawyers. This book can be used as a reference guide for the more common "Dos and Don'ts" of buying and selling horses intended for competition so that the experience results in an enjoyable and successful partnership, benefiting both buyer and seller - but most importantly the horse.

About the Author

Amy is a lawyer practicing law in Dallas, Texas. Amy grew up in Lexington, Kentucky enamored with horses! Because of her passion for and background in the horse industry, much of Amy's transaction and litigation work involves equine matters. In addition to focusing her practice on equine law issues, Amy is actively involved in horse sport, competing in the discipline of dressage. Amy is a FEI athlete and hopes to continue competing in CDIAm events in Texas and Florida. Amy is also a United States Dressage Federation (USDF) L graduate and has been accepted into the USDF program for completing her "r" judge candidacy - all a long way of saying she hopes to become a dressage judge in the near future. Too much of Amy's legal work is spent addressing sale disputes. Amy hopes this book will help people buying and selling horses avoid expensive legal problems during and after a sale.
