Overview

Stephen Hawking, the Lucasian Professor of Mathematics at the University of Cambridge, is regarded as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists since Einstein. This deluxe volume collects two of his landmark books of scientific writing, abundantly illustrated in full color.

The Illustrated A Brief History of Time is a classic study of cosmology featuring chapters on black holes, wormholes, time travel, the expanding universe, the uncertainty principle, Einstein's theories of relativity, elementary particles, and the origin and fate of the universe. Enhanced with satellite images and photographs made possible by the Hubble Space Telescope, this book provides the fascinating story of the ongoing search for the secrets at the heart of space and time.

The Universe in a Nutshell offers a cutting-edge look at theoretical physics, and the search for the elusive "Theory of Everything" that lies at the heart of the cosmos. In his accessible and often playful style, Hawking guides the readers through such topics as supergravity, supersymmetry, quantum theory, M-theory, holography, and duality.
